Dienstag 28. September

Ach du lieber-es war so neblig diesen Morgen!  Oh my goodness-it was very foggy this morning.

German 1
They continued to practice numbers today with one final number worksheet packet.  They did activities a-m in the packet and most were able to finish in class today.  Chapter 1A vocab quiz is coming up Thursday.  Make flashcards.

German 2
They had 8B verb quiz today.  Then they worked on a worksheet packet.  The first two pages focused on 8B nouns (practice for the quiz coming up on Thursday.)  The second two pages gave them more practice on their accusative prepositions.  I think they're getting it.

German 3
They started to read pages 82-83 and then worked on exercise 17 p. 84.  These reading passages have been getting more challenging for them.  The test is scheduled for October 5th, however, it may get pushed to Wednesday or Thursday.  Chapter 3B vocab quiz is coming up on Thursday.

German 4
They started to read pages 251-252 and then worked on exercises 20, 21 on page 253.  The test is scheduled for October 5th, however, it may get pushed to Wednesday or Thursday.  Chapter 8B vocab quiz is coming up on Thursday.

Freitag 24. September

Freitag!!!  Friday!!!
The students were quite excited that today was Friday!

German 1
They took their ABC quiz today and did quite well.  I was very happy with the results.  Good Job!  Then we read a short dialogue and answered some questions about it out loud.  They like to do it out loud instead of writing it down.  Hmmm-I wonder why.  Then they began to learn their numbers.  We will continue with numbers next week.

German 2
They too had a couple of reading passages.  First they read page 241 about the protocol for visiting a German's house.  It is proper to bring a gift when invited for dinner.  The students thought this was a little odd.  Then they read page 241 and worked on exercises 14, 15 on page 240.

German 3 & 4
They watched another part of "The Tunnel."  The action is getting a little more intense.  They saw Fritzie's finance shot while trying to escape from East Berlin to West Berlin.  Also, the diggers hit a water main while digging the tunnel.  Next Friday the action will really pick up as we finish the movie.

Have a super warm weekend!

SSR Today - 15 minutes of Silent Sustained Ready

German 1
ABC Pre-quiz today.  Tomorrow we will do an ABC Quiz.  We then read about greetings and farewells on pages 10-11.  Then they did exercise 8 on page 11.

German 2
We had quite a few assignments to correct today.  After that the students worked on a worksheet packet of rooms in the house.

German 3
We talked about the one word past tense of irregular verbs.  This is the confusing one because of all the stem changes within the verbs.  The students will really need to memorize these changes.  Then they started to work on the assignments that practice this verb form.  Exercises 12-15 on pages 80-81.

German 4
They read about another German festival that goes on about the same time as Oktoberfest.  They then worked on the questions that go with the reading passage.  Exercises 14-15 on page 246.

Es is fast Freitag!! - It's almost Friday!!

***Two quizzes next week.  September 28-8B Verbs & Others.  September 30-8B Nouns.***

German 3

German 4

Dienstag 21. September

Guten Tag!

German 1
First day in the text books.  Today we looked at the introductory pages in the text and listened to a CD that read page 2 in the text book.  The students then repeated their new vocabulary.  We did exercise 1 on page 3 together.  I asked and the students answered in German "who is that?" and "what is his/her name?"  They did quite well.  Their homework for today was to do exercises 1, 2 on pages 1-3 in the workbook.

German 2
Where did everyone go?  Both boys and girls soccer were gone today and hit my German 2 classes pretty hard.  We did continue on with our new vocabulary.  We went over 8B vocab and conjugated 12 new verbs.  The students seemed to remember how to conjugate still!  They then looked at a layout of a house with the contents labeled in German.  They will eventually be making their own house plans with labels for a project.

German 3
They students continued to work on their reading passages for Monday & Tuesday.  They were to read page 76 and do exercise 10, 11 on page 77.  Then they were to read page 77-78 and do workbook exercise 9 on page 56.

German 4
Today we went over more notes on adjective endings.  It is so challenging in German.  Adjectives get different endings if there is a "the" word, an "a, an" word in front of the adjective or if there is no article in front of the adjective.  Ach du lieber!  Oh my goodness!  They did exercises 16, 17 on page 248 and exercises 18, 19 on page 250.
Wow!  So much grammar!

Montag 20. September

Homecoming is over & now we're back to work.

German 1
We finished up our vocab that we started last Friday and then took notes on how the letters and vowels were pronounced in German.

German 2
Personal Pronouns - We talked about the grammar aspect of changing nouns to pronouns.  In German it can be a little more challenging because of the three different genders - we just can't say "it"  for everything.  I think they are starting to pick up on it though.  We will see...  They then worked on exercises 8-10 on pages 230-231.

German 3 & 4
Both of these groups got their new vocab for the week.  German 3-3B Vocab & German 4-8B Vocab.  German 3 read p. 76 and are working on exercises 10-11 on page 77.  German 4 read pages 242-243 and are working on exercise 13 on page 244.

Have a great week!!

They read about special occasions in Germany, and they completed exercise 11 on page 234.

German 3 & 4
They got to watch the next part of the movie "Der Tunnel."  It's getting quite interesting.  They now have 15 people working at digging out the tunnel and are going to try to bring 32 people from East Berlin through it when it's finished.

Good luck sports' teams and have a great weekend.
